I first discovered John Irving when I was living with a family during my semester abroad. Desperate for something to read, I was delighted to one day open a cupboard and find a good selection of his novels – in English! The woman I was staying with was a great fan of his works, and had collected several of them. He is perhaps best known for The World According to Garp or A Prayer for Owen Meany (one of my all-time favorites), but has written many others.
